Wiper-less windshields
In his 1980 novel ‘The Ghost From the Grand Banks” Arthur C. Clark has a character who became wealthy by developing a way to clean windshields using ultrasonic energy and eliminating wipers. I’ve been waiting since then for this to actually happen, and it looks like the wait is nearing an end. Slashdot has a story about an Italian car designer, Leonardo Fioravanti, who has developed a windshield using nanotech that cleans itself! The original report is in Italian, but the google translation seems to indicate that the windshield may be available in 5 years. I suspect it might be a bit more expensive than a new pair of triple-edge refills…
