Wikipedia anniversary
Today marks the 7th anniversary of Wikipedia according to this wired article. I won’t bore you with the details about number of articles or daily visits, you can find them in the link.
I’m a fan of Wikipedia and I’ve never been able to understand the objections from school teachers for using it as a tool for research. If you teach students good research practices inaccuracies don’t pose a serious problem. You shouldn’t use a single source under any circumstances for any serious research, that seems self evident. Sure there are errors, and sure there are deliberate and malicious distortions. Can you show me a source guaranteed to be free from these things?
The visceral reaction by some against anything from Wikipedia is more a statement of ignorance and unreasonable bias than anything real.
