Senior Finale

After 14 years of softball, Meagan played her last Varsity game for Salisbury. No, it didn’t end in glorious victory, but it ended with team spirit, genuine relationships, and strong emotions. I’ve enjoyed every one of those years, and every stage of her growth as a player, from the cat herding days of T-Ball to the “Please don’t talk to me during the game” days of a young woman. I don’t know what else to say. I’m proud of you Meagan. Always have been and always will be.

Softball Finale

After a long, grueling season, the Lady Falcons experienced something of a rebirth in the last four contests. Coach Covely threw the players in the mixer and dropped them in a completely new lineup that finally found something resembling a rhythm. Defense was much better over the last four games and other than a disjointed rainout/continuation game with Southern Lehigh, the girls held their own and played full 7 inning games.

In the final contest of the season the ingredients came together including some offensive performance and the ladies defeated the Bangor Slaters 11-10. This in spite of apparent efforts on the part of the umpires to thrust defeat on them. They didn’t give up, and a single by Senior Jen Singly drove in the winning run in the form of Freshman Markella Wickel.

Congratulations girls on a well deserved victory and on ending the season on a upswing. Good luck Senoirs!

Well it sure took a while, but the Lady Falcons chose Senior Night under the lights at Pates Park as the setting for their first victory! They didn’t make it easy either. After leading the whole game, things got rough at the top of the 7th and the girls fell behind 10-8. But they came back hitting and Ashley had an inside the park homer to tie it up. Meagan had an infield hit to get to first, Allyssa and Nirie moved her to third with sacrifices, then Bri drove her in for the win. Very exciting!

Softball update

After three games in four days, the Lady Falcons are still winless, but the games have been hard fought and things are definitely going to go their way soon. Spring scramble

Ah, spring… Time for too many things to do at once!

Typical spring weekend. It started out Friday evening with William going on a camping trip with Scouts. I chose not to go on this one, owing more than a little to the fact that I had not yet even looked at my taxes. There was also the fact that Meagan had a stand at the Harry S. Truman elementary school craft show selling her self designed and made merchandise from MW Deigns. We set that up at 9:30 AM Saturday.

Seems that the economic slowdown is even hitting craft shows. Turnout was low and sales were disappointing.

Before the show was even halfway over, Meagan needed to leave for a varsity softball game versus Dieruff at Pates Park. The team looks significantly better than last season even at this early juncture, and despite a 7-5 loss they fought hard all the way through the game and were in it to the end. I was video taping so I didn’t get great photos, but several good shots of the girls hitting and the pitchers at work. All the pictures are in the gallery.

Somewhere I found time to start the taxes.

Sunday morning started off early again with replacing the dugout roofs at the ball field at 8:00 AM.

I think I’ll take the rest of the day off.

The Lady Falcons scored an improbable 5-4 upset tonight at Pates Park against a strong Nothern Lehigh team (7-5). The Falcons led from the first inning and never looked back. After extending their lead 5-1 in the 5th inning, they watched NL score three of their own to close the margin back to one. But the girls held firm and NL was scoreless for the 6th and 7th innings. Congratulations to the Lady Falcons and coaches!

More Softball

The girls scored a win against Palmerton! Sadly, the celebration didn’t carry over to the northwest Lehigh game today and they suffered another serious disappointment. We just don’t seem to have any offense. Girls who have hit the ball well in the past just aren’t getting hits. Something is needed to spark the confidence. A few new pictures in the gallery.

Another disappointing loss for the girls, this one to Palisades. We just can’t seem to get the offense going. Meagan had 2 at bats, one k and one successful sacrifice bunt. Ashley was injured in an accident so she didn’t start. She will be fine and the team are all pulling for a speedy recovery. No good pictures to add to the gallery.
