Stop! That vitamin may be killing you!
Well, this is just wonderful news. Seems that your daily all purpose vitamin might just be shortening your life!
Honestly I don’t think people should be surprised that vitamins don’t have the positive health impact that they are hyped to have. The “miracles” claimed for some supplements are just too good to be true. Still, I must admit a little shock to see statistical evidence that supplements can actually INCREASE your risk of mortality (note: I want to take issue here, because everyone’s risk of mortality is 100%! The article uses this term of “increased mortality” in a strange way so i just have to assume it is a British-English thing and I won’t make fun)
The article isn’t clear if the studies covered “recommended” dosages of supplements (e.g. 100% RDA) or if they included excessively high dosages, or both. Still, we aren’t talking about “new age” supplements, we’re talking about vitamin A, C and E, commonly taken by millions upon millions of people because we have been told that if our body doesn’t need it, it will just be washed out the other end.
I don’t know what to make of this. I’ll be watching with interest to see if there is any further independent study.
