Return of the coal burning car
High oil prices got you thinking about an electric? I’ve got a better idea. Why don’t you cut out the middle man and just install your own coal boiler and steam turbine? You know coal, that filthy, nasty stuff that lets you turn on the lights at night. The New York Times reports that thanks to sky high oil prices and increasing demand for electricity, energy companies are increasingly turning to cheap, abundant coal. Typical Americans, right? Well not exactly. This is happening in Europe. Fifty new coal fired plants are expected to be built over the next five years. But hey, they’ll “try” to make them as clean as possible. I just don’t understand how this can be possible, after all isn’t Europe the Utopian land with a windmill in every pot and a personal nuke plant in every backyard?
