Public says bridge collapse theory not good enough
This just cracks me up. According to this story in the New York Times, the current theory about the Minneapolis bridge collapse that I blogged about previously is being rejected by the masses. Why? Because it isn’t what they want to hear.
“Everyone” knows that the bridge collapsed becuase of poor maintenance. That is what the talking heads all told us at the time, and that is something we want to believe in. It’s nice and convenient and there are “people” to blame (even better, “the government” to blame) and it is easily fixed by just throwing money at it. Everyone leaves happy.
Now a bunch of engineers are trying to tell us that the bridge fell down because it wasn’t designed correctly 40 years ago. How are we supposed to get indignant about that? Who are we supposed to hang? Kind of unsatisfying to point at some anonymous individual designer who forgot to carry the 2 40 years ago, isn’t it. And how can we be expected to believe it? After all, the bridge worked perfectly well right up to the time that it…well…didn’t. If it wasn’t designed correctly it would have fallen down 39 1/2 years ago, right?
The angry mob doesn’t know how to “un-lynch” all the government officials and transportation departments they they already tried and convicted, so the only reasonable solution is to decide that the detailed study of the accident is wrong. Even better, it is all an elaborate cover-up.
Depressing.

What’s depressing?
That the American public isn’t buying the government and MSM BS anymore?
That’s not depressing, that’s encouraging!
