Boeng Dreamliner at risk from cyberattack?

I’m not sure how I feel about this report from USA today outlining concerns that the FAA has about Boeing’s new Dreamliner 787 and similar “fly by wire” planes. the concern is that there are over the air signals flying around controlling all sorts of important things, and that these are susceptible to hackers.

It smells like FUD, a bit too “Battlestar Galactica” for my tastes. But at the same time, hackers are relentless and there are only two kinds of computer security that I am aware of. The kind that HAS BEEN cracked and the kind that WILL BE cracked. I must admit to some discomfort at the fact that my airplane could be flown from the ground. I guess I’m still a fan of levers, wires, cables and hydraulics connected to the stick, but that ship has sailed.
